Talk Story

Katarina Tualemoso is a Contemporary Impressionist Oil Painter and Photographer. Residing in West Maui for some 20 years following a Southern California up-bringing a Central California education and a Northern California Career in Culinary arts, she studied Graphic Design and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Business from California Polytechnic State University. Katarina demonstrates a versatile sense of color and composition with a passion for organic forms. She illuminates qualities that are simple yet defining and appeal to a wide variety of observers. Most recently she was selected to exhibit in Maui’s prestigious 35th Annual Juried Show, “Art Maui 2016.” She is currently working on a piece for the National Parks 100 year anniversary Exhibit as well as creating a body of work including over 50 portraits of Maui residents for her show entitled “Maui Selfies” opening on July 11th at the 888 Art Galley on Front Street, Maui. Her work is featured in several Maui residences including her largest commissioned Oil Painting in 2015 with mural proportions at 10’x7’. Katarina’s most influential art experience was over a seven-year period where she had the opportunity to model in life drawing for several celebrated Maui artists and members of the Kihei Arts Council. After a short period modeling she discovered her love of oil painting, became an active member and eventually a board member. Her life long inspirations include Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Vincent Van Gogh, Jackson Pollack and Georgia O’keeffe.
